From 1973 to 1985, he worked at the Directorates for Innovation and Planning at Renfe.


Professor of Railways at the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering (1983-2018).


Advisor to Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat de Cataluña (1986-2004) in the area of Planning.


Member of several Expert Committees in the International Union of Railways (UIC), (1975-2017).


Guest expert at the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (CEMT), (1993-2002).


Member of the Renfe Board of Directors as an independent expert (1997-2000).


Member of the Gestor de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias (GIF) Board of Directors as an independent expert (1997-2000).


Member of the European Association for Railway Interoperability (AEIF) Board of Directors (1998-2000).


Chairman of the South Mediterranean European Economic Interest Grouping (1998-2004).


Director of the Centre for Innovation in Transport (CENIT) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2000-2006).


Chairman of the Expert Advisory Group of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on Infrastructures (2015-2017).


He has been a member of the Steering Committee of magazines such as: Eisenban Technische Rundshan (ETR), Railway Technical Review (RTR) and Railway Reports Quarterly (Poland).


He has published more than 350 articles in technical magazines and is the author of more than 20 books on railway technology.
