Industrial Engineering of the School of Engineering in Bilbao. PhD in Industrial Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Graduated in the High Management Programme at the Institute of Business Studies (IESE). Extraordinary Professor at the University of Deusto.


He has published over 50 articles in journals, he also has taken part in several national and international conferences, and has worked on various projects in Iberduero and Iberdrola, such as the National Electrical Plans, Energy Control Systems, Hydro-thermal Coordination Plans, R & D and business projects, etc. He is also national and international Advisor-consultant on all aspects of the electricity sector, energy and business leadership.


Former Deputy Chairman of Iberdrola and Chairman of Gamesa. His professional career currently comprises the following activities. Chairman of the Association for the Revitalisation of Metropolitan Bilbao (Bilbao Metropoli-30); President of the Altuna Foundation; Member of the Board of Trustees of COTEC Foundation; Academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain; Board member of GTD; Academic (Member) of the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of Eusko Ikaskuntza (Jakiunde) and member of the Strategic Committee of IK-4.


He is also Honorary Consul of Bilbao; member of the Spanish Association of the Club of Rome; Member of the Real Sociedad Bascongada de los Amigos del País Vasco; Vasco-Press Award winner; Puig Adam Medal winner (Foundation for the Fostering of Innovation); Gold Medal holder of the University of Deusto; Honorary Doctorate of the University of the Basque Country and holder of the “Exemplary Professional Career” Award, given by the EUREKA newspaper.
